The 2015 Audi A7 is quite a good-looking, and luxurious 5 seater sports saloon. The sedan comes with a stylish sloped roofline or wide skirts with hunched shoulders at the front and the rear. The car even has some attractive LED DRLs at the front. The car has some surprisingly brilliant drivability and a highly responsive throttle.

Powering the car is a supercharged V-6 gasoline engine or a turbocharged V-6 diesel motor. They make 310 horsepower and 240 horsepower respectively. All A7s are offered only as an AWD, and also have an 8-speed automatic transmission. The car stands up to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 and the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe.

Overall Rating

The Audi A7 is one of the best looking 5 seater sedans currently on the market. The car sits in between the Audi A8 and the Audi A6 and has a distinct coupe-like styling that gives it a unique flair. the interiors and the exteriors come with some of the most modern features, while the luxurious interiors are supportive as well as highly comforting. In a novel approach, the Audi comes with a supercharged V-6, which gives an immediate response, although the peak power outputs are a bit lacking as compared to the competition. the resulting performance gives the car an almost uncannily smooth straight line accelration.

With the sporty driving character of the Audi A7, the Sports Packages makes sense as it adds 19-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension. This package can be further enhanced with the Black Optic Package which adds high-gloss black on the grille and window surrounds. When choosing the trim, the base trim has adequate features to be a comfortable yet luxurious offering.

2015 Audi A7 Engine and Performance

9.3/10

The 2015 Audi A7 offers a choice between two engines. A supercharged 3.0L V-6 gasoline engine makes 310 horsepower and 325 foot-pounds of torque. There is another option in the 3.0L turbocharged diesel V-6 which makes 240 horsepower and 428 foot-pounds of torque. All Audi A7s come with AWD and an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

Compared to the competition, the Mercedes-Benz CLS is the quickest off the mark. It also has the best performance figures in the competition. The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe 640i is powered by a turbocharged inline-6 engine and has similar acceleration figures as the Audi A7. Only Audi A7 is the sedan in the competition that has a supercharger.

2015 Audi A7 Fuel Economy

The fuel economy is a bit on the lower side, although it is pretty average considering the competition. The V-6 supercharged motor is pretty inefficient considering the horsepower it makes. The gasoline Audi A7 gives 18 mpg in cities, 28 on highways, and 21 combined. The diesel motor is the most efficient of the Audi 7 Series, with 24 mpg in cities, 38 on highways, and 29 combined.

The 2015 BMW 6 Series is much more efficient than either the Mercedes-Benz CLS or the Audi A7. Even though it comes with the smallest fuel tank of the lot at 18.5 gallons, it still has the best range. BMW’s offering provides a combined mileage of 24 mpg. The Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 has the largest fuel tank in the competition of 21.1 gallons.

2015 Audi A7 Interior

8.0/10

The interiors can accommodate average or above-average passengers in any 4 corner positions. Though taller passengers will have to take a bit of a compromise in the headroom. The front seats have acres of adjustability and have the best available space. Heated and ventilated seats come standard at the front. The interiors are premium grade and amped up to levels comparable to the Audi A8 saloon. Overall they are plush, refined, and easy to use.

The legroom in the Audi A7 is the best in the comparison. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS 550, even though it does have some of the longer lengths, seems to be compromised for the same. The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe has the second-best legroom. The Audi also has the best cargo space in the competition, followed by the Mercedes. Some standout interior features include:

  • 4-zone automatic climate control
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated seats
  • 8-way adjustable seats w/ 4-way lumbar adjustment
  • LED Ambient interior lighting
  • Ventilated front seats
  • 10-speaker Audio
  • (optional) 14-speaker Bose Audio

How intuitive is the 2015 Audi A7’s infotainment unit?

Audi has a highly modern system in the center console, called the MMI. The system is controlled with a scratchpad that can recognize handwriting to input commands. The A7 also offers connectivity with a T-Mobile 3-G network. The system allows 8 WiFi devices to be connected and also allows Google Maps connectivity. The car can even get real-time traffic updates from Sirius Traffic. Some standout interior features include:

  • 3G Connection with 8-device WiFi capability
  • Google Maps Navigation
  • Voice Recognition
  • MMI Touchpad interface
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Audi Connect

2015 Audi A7 Exterior

9.9/10

Audi updates its LED DRLs for its whole lineup almost every year. Even with the headlights, the A7 is one of the most stunning cars in Audi’s lineup. The exterior seems almost too daring and away from the normal body language of Audi’s saloons. The surface is clean and detailed, with lines and curves flowing straight from the front to the back. Overall it is the best looking car in the comparison.

All cars in the lineup are comparable, though the BMW seems to have the longest wheelbase. The ground clearance figure is only available for BMW, which is 5.0 inches. When it comes to curb weight, all the sedans are close but Audi is the heaviest. The car also includes a variety of exterior features which are mentioned below:

  • Optional S Line Package to upgrade the entire exterior appearance
  • Optional 20" 5-twin-arm Titanium Finish Wheels
  • Optional R20 All-season tires
  • Black Optic Package for more exterior features
  • LED DRLs

2015 Audi A7 Safety

9.9/10

Due to its high price and low volume, it is very unlikely that the A7 will ever be tested by either the IIHS or the NHTSA. However, it does have a precision-crafted chassis and a plethora of tech and safety features. Available is a special night-vision assistant that can highlight objects and people ahead in yellow or red while giving audible warnings to help the driver’s sight. Some standout safety features in the car are:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Active Lane Assist
  • Audi Pre Sense System
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Rear View Camera
  • ABS and EBD

2015 Audi A7 Final Verdict

The 2015 Audi A7 is a unique car in all senses. It has brilliant drivability, a powerful engine, and refined and well-outfitted interiors. The car feels highly premium on the inside, while the throttle and the gearbox always ensure it is completely responsive at every speed. The car also comes standard with an AWD system. Though the AWD coupled with the Supercharged V-6 motor does not help fuel economy, which is quite low. Overall based on the driving character and the interior quality, along with the brilliant exterior styling, the car is a must buy.
