2022 Nissan Maxima Price, Review, Ratings and Pictures

The Nissan Maxima is the brand’s luxury full-size sedan that also doubles up as a sports sedan. Even though it’s sporting capabilities are to be taken with a pinch of salt, it remains supremely capable and an exciting car for the money. However, it is now being reformed and a replacement is well within sights. If we’re to believe what we have been told, it is to be completely redesigned as an electric vehicle. This is expected to be launched sometime in 2022 but details have not been confirmed by the company yet.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The Maxima is designed in a way that it looks aggressive yet elegant. It does not dabble a lot farther from its luxury car roots. Styling is also modern throughout and it has aged pretty well during the production run of the Maxima. The interiors appear slightly dated as of now and require some change soon.

It starts at the base price of $38,000 (expected) and goes up to almost $46,000 for the fully loaded version. It competes against the Honda Accord, Chevrolet Impala and the Dodge Charger. Let’s look at how it fares against its competition.

2022 Nissan Maxima Pricing and Features

The 2022 Nissan Maxima is available in three trim options, namely SV, SR, and Platinum. The base SV trim is estimated to be available at a price of $38,000 and gets great standard features. The mid SR trim brings in much better features like the sport-tuned suspension, ventilated seats, surround-view camera, and many more. The Platinum trim gets almost all of the features from the SR trim but drops out the sport-tuned suspension and adds in more convenience features. Here is a list of the key features that are available with the trims of the 2022 Nissan Maxima.

2022 Nissan Maxima Engine and Performance

One of the highlights of this car is the powerful 3.5 L naturally aspirated V6 engine. It produces 300 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque. These numbers help the car achieve very good acceleration figures and they make it exciting in general. But at the same time, the transmission which is a CVT gearbox does not seem to add to the fun quotient. What we understand is that Nissan has not intended the car to ever be an out and out sports car but intends to provide you with occasional thrills that come with everyday driving. For this reason we feel that it is acceptable in terms of performance.

There is no option of a more powerful engine, or a more exciting drivetrain. But that is not to say that the car is slow. It isn’t a particularly engaging car to drive. The acceleration figures are decent at 5.7 seconds taken to reach 60 mph from a standstill. This should be adequate for almost all buyers. However the car isn’t one you would push to its limits, even though it is equipped with a very capable suspension system and has good driving dynamics.

Except the Honda Accord, all the rivals have similarly powerful engines as well as the same drivetrain options of front-wheel drive. The Dodge Charger is the only one that offers a rear wheel drive configuration. The 0 to 60 times are very evenly matched but the Maxima is faster than its rivals by quite some bit. The heavy weight of the Dodge Charger makes it perform in a way that’s inferior to the Nissan Maxima.

2022 Nissan Maxima Fuel Economy

Nissan has not only concentrated on giving the Maxima a powerful engine but also in making it fuel-efficient. It returns an impressive 30 mpg on the highway and more often than not, betters that figure in real-world performance. The combined MPG is 24 which is also pretty high. As we’ve mentioned before we do not have any complaints about this engine, be it performance, refinement or fuel efficiency.

Despite the Accord being much less powerful, it shows clear advantages of four-cylinder turbocharged engines as compared to naturally aspirated V6 engines in terms of fuel efficiency. While the Nissan Maxima, Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Impala return around 23 MPG combined, the Accord returns a mind-boggling 33 MPG. So if you want to make the trade-off between performance and fuel efficiency you know which one to pick. Among its V6 rivals however, the Maxima is the one that has maximum efficiency.

2022 Nissan Maxima Interior

The 2022 NIssan Maxima is expected to be a comfortable ride due to its impeccable stability and exquisite upholstery. Based on the 2021 make, we expect the 2022 model to be equipped and deliver equally, if not better.

What are the changes in the interior of the 2022 Nissan Maxima?

The interiors of the Nissan Maxima are well laid out, uses top-quality materials and has functions that are simple to use. The technology offered is updated and space is also generous. One would find themselves slightly cramped only in the legroom of the rear seat.

It can transport five people with ease and features power adjustable seats that are very comfortable, a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and auto dimming rearview mirror, push-button start et cetera.

One would find themselves asking for more space only in the rear seat of the Nissan Maxima. Apart from this all other areas are pretty well endowed in terms of space. But at the same time if you take the cargo capacity, the Nissan falls behind almost all of its rivals. The Impala is a class leader in terms of cargo space. All cars have identical seating capacities for five adults.

How intuitive is the 2022 Nissan Maxima’s infotainment unit?

Infotainment features are quite standard. You get an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system that sits in the centre of the dashboard. It has touchscreen controlled as well as buttons for audio volume and climate control. The security systems in the car are also pretty good. Nissan  also provided a feature to make driving safer for teenagers by way of speed, boundary and curfew alerts and even goes as far as automatically calling emergency services in the event of airbag deployment.

2022 Nissan Maxima Exterior

The exterior styling is aggressive but a bit dated. Not too long ago, it was often described as refined and dashing. We still feel that it looks good but changes are inevitable and even necessary.

For this purpose we are eagerly waiting for a precaution of the Maxima that is to be launched in 2022.

The Dodge Charger is the heaviest car of the lot by quite a margin. This is reflected in its acceleration as well as efficiency figures. The Accord seems to be at odds with the Dodge Charger in terms of the overall vehicle concept. The wheelbase on the Nissan is on the shorter side but due to the length of the overhangs, it represents dimensional is that are similar to the Accord. Even though the Charger can be considered the largest full-size sedan of the lot, all the cars are pretty similar in terms of size.

2022 Nissan Maxima Safety

Safety has been one department where the Maxima has performed very well. It has very good crash test results as well as excellent driver assistant features. It missed out slightly for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick of the year due to its headlamps. According to the NHTSA testing it has scored an overall safety rating of five stars which is the maximum you can find on any car.

  • Standard Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Standard Pedestrian Detection
  • Standard Forward Collision Warning
  • Available Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

2022 Nissan Maxima Final Verdict

Even though the Nissan Maxima is a great car that is certainly worthy of a lot of praise, it would not be the best idea to buy it when a major redesign is due. But otherwise it is a car we would recommend by all means. Like we have mentioned it promises an excellent level of luxury along with good performance. But the reason that it is being phased out we would recommend that you buy it used. Given its reputation for reliability you would also be satisfied with the used car. Used examples are available in plenty for good prices.

Love the styling!

Pros - Comfortable, responsive, quiet

Cons - Don’t hold value, interior has plastic

Cool design First and foremost let’s address the elephant in the room, CVT is a big NO. I wish Nissna had an automatic option like the rest of its rivals has. Apart from this, I am genuinely fascinated with its driving dynamics. Not only that but it looks amazing as well. The white color and the chrome alloy wheels are made for each other. It is just pleasing to look at. And since this is a sedan it is very comfortable to ride, the cabin is spacious, and the interior looks great. Infotainment is easy to use and it has Apple CarPlay support but the speaker’s quality is not great. There approach towards any issues in the vehicle even after buying is amazing.

2021 Nissan Maxima

Pros - Easy access controls, luxurious interiors, well balanced driving dynamics

Cons - No AWD, bit expensive

Maximum Limits Just WOW!!!! for a sedan. Looks cool. Infotainment is really cool and brings a great ambience. Interior lighting is excellent. Steering is precise. Its suspension are nothing thought of, they drive the car so easily over ditches , bumps and dips with such a ease. Its more like crusing in this sedan on road.

Maxima-feel the thrill behind the wheel

Pros - Appealing looks, great handling, spacious cabin

Cons - No coplimentary scheduled maintenance

You can track the vehicle, can set speed boundary as well The sedan accelerates quite fast, the handling is great, the steering is not as responsive. well designed and well placed, the infotainment screen is accessible via buttons, red trim leather seats are beautiful and comfortable, the rear seats have ample space. The Maxima is a deisgn masterpiece from Nissan, their signature V type lining in the front has been blacked out and same treatment on the top portion of doors as well, the rear part is raised and has dual exhaust and clean grey diffuser which adds to the sportiness of the sedan, standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking and pre collision warning.
