The 2021 Porsche Cayenne S is available for sale with a starting MSRP of $85,100 which excludes the $1,350 destination fee. Offered as a standalone trim, it also offers a separate coupe body style in the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S Coupe. Powered by a 434 hp 2.9L twin-turbocharged V6, the 2021 Cayenne S packs the capability to go from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Compared to the newly launched 459 hp 2021 Cayenne GTS, this 0-60 mph time is only 0.4 seconds slower.

The interior has always been a highlight and the luxury and sporty factor remains intact with the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S- all thanks to the analog-digital driver display. Though it is not as powerful as the 2021 Cayenne Turbo, the MPG figures do take a hit. And that is precisely where the 2021 Cayenne E-Hybrid pops in to save the day with a slightly higher price tag of $86,700. Owing to its dynamism, the 2021 Cayenne S faces off against the BMW X5 M50i, Mercedes-AMG GLE 53, and the Audi SQ8.

The Porsche Cayenne is undoubtedly one of the best luxury SUVs out there.- CarBuzz

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne S remains unchanged from last year and carries the same specs. Available for sale in a single trim with a starting MSRP of $85,100, it also has a coupe body style on offer as the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S Coupe. Powered by a 434 hp 2.9L twin-turbocharged V6, it can go from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds. This is only marginally lesser than 4.5 seconds 0-60 mph time of the newly launched 2021 Cayenne GTS with a 459 hp 4.0L turbocharged V8

The interior packs most of the creature's comfort, safety tech, and Porsche-centric offerings, but still needs some additional features to be value for money. However, if you want to skip buying it, you can lease out the 2021 Cayenne S for a price of $1,437/month for 36 months with no downpayment. But if you do take the plunge and buy it, you will be spending around $102,176 in 5 years as the cost of ownership. That means you will be spending 25 cents per mile that you drive it around, or getting 3.9 miles per dollar that you spend on owning it.

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne S is a feature-packed ride as is, however, it can surely benefit from a few more features. We would recommend you to expand your wallet a bit more and pick up the Premium Package Plus for $7,180, and the Assistance Package for $6,250. 2021 Porsche Cayenne S SUV Engine and Performance

9.3/10

You don't expect a large SUV to feel so quick. But when it wears a Porsche badge, it's expected. -Edmunds

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne S retains the same 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from the 2019 model. This powerhouse is capable of producing 434 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Taming this powertrain is an 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission that is accessible through paddle shifters. All of the power is delivered smoothly via the standard AWD drivetrain. However, if even more performance is your sole pursuit, then the recently launched, 2021 Porsche Cayenne GTS with the 453 hp 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 would take your fancy for $107,300.

2021 Porsche Cayenne S SUV engine bay

Being the buttery-smooth ride that it is, the 2021 Cayenne S will simply make you fall in love with its supreme performance prowess. Thanks to the available drive modes namely- Normal, Sport, and Sport+, all dynamics of the ride change according to your needs. Though the numbers don't tell the story, for the 85 grand that you splurge on it, the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S surely has a way to impress you with its handling capabilities. The 2021 Cayenne GTS takes things further by adding adaptive suspensions that will make driving the Porsche even more handsy.

Find an empty strip of road, and turn on the Sport+ mode. All that is left is to put the pedal to the metal and watch your 85 grand at work. The 2021 Porsche Cayenne S can sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds while the quarter-mile comes up in 13.6 seconds. While this is impressive in its own regard, the 2021 Cayenne GTS ups the game by shaving off 0.4 seconds and posting in a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. To keep up with this kind of performance, you get 15.3-inch rotors in front and 13-inch rotors in the rear of the 2021 Cayenne S. With these brakes, the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S stops from 60-0 mph in 106 feet.

That said, pairing the battery and motors with a powerful turbo V-6 instead of a more efficient four-cylinder means efficiency numbers aren't very impressive.- MotorTrend

Splurging north of 85 grand to pick up a dream vehicle like the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S, you can bid fuel efficiency goodbye. The 2021 Cayenne S offers 18 MPG in the city, 22 MPG on the highway, and 20 MPG combined. While the brand is certainly oriented towards an eco-friendly approach with the Cayenne E-Hybrid range, the standard powertrain is still mostly gas-guzzling.

Upgrade to the 2021 Porsche Cayenne GTS, and you will see the MPG figures drop by 3 MPG in all regards. The fuel tank capacity remains constant, however, at 23.7 gallons. At full capacity, you can get an overall combined driving range of 474 miles which is more than enough for a ride of this stature.

The interior has been thoroughly modernized.- The Car Connection

The interior of the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S emulates a sense of panache, luxury, and sportiness all in one cohesive packaging. The multifunction steering wheel with the digital-analog driver display grants that Porsche feeling to the driver. The front seats come with leather upholstery and power adjustability as standard and offer ample space to the occupants, even the tall ones. At the center console, the shifter along with haptic sensitive controls justifies the 90 grand you spend on buying the 2021 Cayenne S.

Compared to the competitors, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 is the most spacious one but sits in the second spot in terms of cargo space. The Audi SQ8 has the most spacious front cabin, but loses out slightly in the rear cabin, and also in the cargo space. The BMW X5 M50i maximizes its cargo space on account of interior space while the Porsche Cayenne S has the minimum cargo space. To keep the occupants entertained, the 2021 Cayenne S comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard. The UI of the infotainment system is quite intuitive and is super easy to get used to.

Porsche attempts to imbue every product with a particular set of skills—specifically those that cater to driving enjoyment.- CarAndDriver

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne S continues on its trajectory of being one of the best-looking SUVs in the segment. The front welcomes you with LED headlights, 4-point LED DRLs, and the grille with the camera in it. Step onto the side, and the 20-inch Cayenne Sport wheels with all-season tires are on full display. At the rear end, you get 3D LED taillights, an LED strip running from end to end, and the embossed "PORSCHE" branding with the "Cayenne S" badging. All of which helps in imparting a spectacular road presence.

Though Porsche is extracting a higher price than the competition for almost all its cars, the 2021 Cayenne S certainly lives up to it with the kind of customizability it offers. Apart from the standard color options, and wheel designs, you get full freedom to even create your own personal color scheme. Though that costs $3,600 extra, it is well worth it to help you create a personal style statement. Add to that the fact that it glides 6.6-inches above the ground, and the 2021 Cayenne S lives up to the performance SUV tag that it gets.

In the lineup, the 2021 Cayenne S comes out as the lightest, and the most compactly built vehicle. The BMW X5 M50i looks big and burly and also has a weight corresponding to that size. The Mercedes AMG GLE 53 may not look like it, but is actually also one of the bigger ones, both in terms of size, and weight. The Audi SQ8 is the heftiest one, and dare we say, also the meanest looking one, all thanks to its menacing grille with the "S" badging.

However, the Cayenne is available with a bevy of driver-assistance technology to help keep occupants safe.- CarAndDriver

Porsche cars seldom reach the gates of IIHS or NHTSA for crash testing. And the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S is not striving to break that tradition at least. Since it has not been crash-tested yet, there are no safety ratings to "gauge" its safety in the real world. However, the brand has provided a lot of safety tech as standard in the 2021 Cayenne S.

2021 Porsche Cayenne S Safety

Ranging from driver assistance features to active safety features, there are is no shortage of safety tech in the 2021 Cayenne S. Furthermore, the brand has made sure that the absence of safety ratings from the NHTSA or IIHS does not deter the buyers from picking up the 2021 Cayenne S. The following are the highlight safety features:

  • Integrated Porsche 4D-Chassis Control
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP)
  • 10 Dual Stage SRS Airbags
  • Engine immobilizer with remote central locking
  • Alarm system with radar-based interior surveillance
  • Warn and Brake Assist
  • ParkAssist (front and rear) with reversing camera
  • Surround View
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Porsche InnoDrive with Lane Keep Assist (LKA)

2021 Porsche Cayenne S vs. 2021 BMW X5 M50i

The 2021 BMW X5 M50i is probably the clear winner in this competition. Backed by the best safety tech in the business, it is also massively powerful, and immensely spacious, and comfortable. Overall, it has a better road presence than the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S as well. However, the driving experience, and MPG figures are both the Achilles' heel since the Bimmer suffers in both of these aspects. That being said, costing almost 4-grand less than the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S, we still think that the 2021 BMW X5 M50i drives a much better bargain.

2021 Porsche Cayenne S vs. 2021 Mercedes AMG GLE 53

The 2021 Mercedes AMG GLE 53 is the opulent king on steroids. With 429 hp to boot, the 2021 AMG GLE 53 is the cheapest option in this lot. Furthermore, it has the same fuel-efficient nature as the 2021 Cayenne S. The interior is well-spaced and backed by a lot of techs like the MBUX infotainment system, the bucketload of safety tech, and top of the line luxury. That being said, the quintessential experience of driving the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S is all that steals the show. Hence, it boils down to brand preference here.

2021 Porsche Cayenne S vs. 2021 Audi SQ8

The 2021 Audi SQ8 is the brother from another mother for the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S. Corporate cousins to each other, the 2021 Audi SQ8 is the newest entrant in this segment with a lot more power than the 2021 Cayenne S. With a higher price tag of 89 grand, it also offers a more aggressive exterior design, better spaced interior with the Audi Virtual Cockpit as standard. Being part of the same group, the driving experience is almost similar to the 2021 Cayenne S. However, when it boils down to it, the 2021 Cayenne S is more fuel-efficient and costs less, and hence is our pick of the two.

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne S does strike the right chord with almost all the buyers in its segment. It is packed with features all around, offers a comfortable and opulent interior, and is a great performer overall. The power is also not far off from the 2021 Cayenne GTS, at a price that is 30 grand lesser. Hence, the 2021 Porsche Cayenne S is surely worth buying.

The underdog

Pros - "Powerful turbocharged engines Athletic handling Comfortable seats and cabin"

Cons - Subpar cargo capacity

Sportive compact SUV The dashboard is dominated by a 12.3-inch touchscreen with basic features including turn-by-turn navigation, WiFi, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A sporty mechanical gauge cluster sits next to it, with beautifully made meters that look like they belong in a high-end luxury car. A dash-mounted timer is included in the optional Sport Chrono package, which really is a Porsche trademark. Brian Gilmore, Joshua's general manager, and I worked together in sales. I will buy a car in Orlando again without a doubt. There was no pressure to purchase any additional products. The sportiest SUV.

Pros - Great driving demeanor, throaty exhaust note, astounding acceleration

Cons - Hard seats,ride quality,low cubby spaces

The balance between daily usability and out right performance. If you are looking for the greatest driving entertainment on a multipurpose vehicle, then this one is the right choise for you. Multi adujustible driver seats, heads up display,Bose/Burmester premium audio Well the interior of this car exudes a sporty nature and so you dont get that luxurious and spacious feel that you expect.Every material used feels premium and is put together in perfection. The modernised headlamps and the sleek wrap around tailamps does give the new cayenne the new generation essence. Pretty well equipped, I think. No idea as of now. Costs a whopping 86 grand. Excellent
